Choosing the next family wagon, which one?
The VW Passat estate is getting long in the tooth so we are looking to change over the next few weeks, but to what?
In short we have a 2009 VW Passat 2.0 Bluemotion comfortline, it is a tank of a car which has served us very well over 3 years of ownership. The mileage on it is creeping up to over 250,000km and as there is a few things are staring to come around and it will start to soon cost money. Factor in the recent emission scandal and the residual value could really take a massive hit on trade in. With this in mind I started having a look around at a new family motor to ferry the kids around in.
So what to choose? This is always a hot topic of conversation, herself want a SUV, Qashqai or IX35 from Hyundai in 2014 but to be honest that is out of the price range, if we get one in our budget it is a 2009 or 2010 with high miles so these are out of the window. Estates are also out of the window as we have one and do not any longer need the extra space so we have saloon cars to consider. VW passat is out for the reasons above, Mondeo nether of us like that much, Avensis meh, Mazda 6 did not make it into the conversation at all. I like the new style Peogeot 508 a lot and along with the Hyundai i40 these became the main contenders
Looking at a 2012 Hyundai i40 all these came with massive miles of 110k (miles) or more. way to much. However I did spot a 2011 Peugeot 508 2.0 Hdi in Allure spec that has only 73k on the clock. Given we do not clock up the miles the volume on this is workable. Having done some homework on the car it has come across very very well in user reviews, very reliable and to be honest it wears its 73k like a 10k car.
Hopefully if everything works out and we get a trade in we are looking for on the Passat we might end up in the Peugeot 508 for the next 3 years. Fingers Crossed
